FESTIVALS & CELEBRATIONS
Many Tunisian celebrations have something to do with their religion. They also have festivals that celebrate different seasons that come in the year.
Mouled
In April, the Mouled is held. This day celebrates Muhammad's birthday. The Muslims believe that Muhammad was the last of God's prophets and that he followed in the footsteps of Jesus, Moses and Abraham to speak to mankind for God.

Ramadan
Ramadan is a very important Islamic celebration. Muslims fast for 30 days from sun rise to sun set during this time and only work 6 hours a day. When fasting, they do not eat, drink, or even chew gum. After the sun sets they eat their favorite foods and visit with family and friends.

Eid al-Fitr
This feast breaks the fast of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr lasts 3 days, during which Muslims wear their finest clothes and hang lights and other decorations in their homes. Gifts are given to children and families meet and feast with friends.

Festivals
Every small village or town holds their own festivals. They celebrate summer, harvest, the fishing season, local saints, or the coming of spring. At these festivals people dance traditional dances, sing folk songs, eat special foods, and watch camel races in the desert.
