Music & Dance
Music has always been an important part of Indian life. So much so that they believe music and dance are gifts from the gods. Many songs and dances tell Hindu stories.
The sitar is one of the most popular music instruments of North India. Sitars are played with tablias and the sarangi in India. The shehnai, a wind instrument, is also very common. |
Dances vary from on area of India to the next. Many are religious dances. Dancers often wear bells on their ankles, plenty of jewelry and very colourful clothes. Indian dancers do not move around very much. Instead, they stamp their feet to difficult rhythms and use their hands and facial expressions in many different ways.
