Ceviche If Peru had an official national dish, it would probably be ceviche. Ceviche is raw fish or shrimp soaked in lemon juice and seasoned with red onion and aji pepper. It is served with sweet potato or choclo, a white corn. Some people drink the leftover lemon juice, which is known as leche de tigre, tiger’s milk.
Inca Kola is a bright yellow soft drink popular in Peru. It smells like bubble gum!
Many potatoes and avocados are also eaten in Peru. There are 200 kinds of potatoes in Peru. They can be purple, yellow, blue, or brown in colour.
Tamales, which is mashed corn and meat or cheese is also a common food. Tamales are often wrapped in a banana leaf.
