India is a large country in South Asia. It is the seventh largest country in the world and has the second highest population in the world, second only to China.
Indian people have many different religions. Some people are very rich, while most are very poor and have little money. Many have no homes and are forced to sleep in the streets. Some people have gone to college and university, and some have never gone to school at all!

The people of India speak many different languages. There are 13 main languages spoken and more than 800 dialects. Most Indian people do speak Hindi though. National symbols
India's national animal is the Bengal tiger, which is a protected animal in India. Their national bird is the peacock. Their national flower is a water plant, the lotus. Mangos are India's national fruit. And their national tree is the banyan tree. |
